Day 20: Beer for Men in Expensive Suits

New Zealand has some of the best and some of the worst advertisements I’ve ever seen. Some I just don’t get at all and others that I just love. NZ also has some truly awesome beer. And sometimes good beer and good advertisements go together.

Tui is a beer that was born and bred in New Zealand. Their website has a bit of their history but the beer has been around for about 100 years. Which if you’ll recall from my earlier blog about NZ history is pretty darn old for something Kiwi. Some of my Kiwi friends love Tui and some of them turn their noses up at anything that isn’t micro-brew — especially in Wellington as Wellington has started to get a name for itself when it comes to making good beer.

IMG_7562I like it though — it’s light and refreshing. And if you’re driving down state highway 2 near Mangatainoka then make a stop at the brewery! They have a nice cafe and bar and you can sample the different beers. They have a pretty good fish and chips and the brewery offers some beers that they don’t sell anywhere else. And the bathroom sink is shaped like a beer keg and you gotta love that :-).

I mentioned before that NZ is pretty laid back — they don’t take themselves too seriously and there’s a bit of an ‘anything goes’ culture here that I love. Tui has a fun time with their ads and commercials, including the one in today’s featured image — the pic is from their website but the advertisement has been on billboards in Auckland and I just love it!
