We start with the best of intentions and then life takes over — it’s been months since I updated my blog.
There was a terrible round of shootings in the U.S. over the last few days and over the last few months with many getting killed and a lot of unrest. Gun use isn’t common in NZ. This past week a video went viral of a hold-up in a souvlaki shop in Christchurch. A man pulled a gun on the clerk and the clerk finished serving the existing customer and then walked away. The gunman (looking stupid) didn’t know what to do and walked away as well.
It was bizarre to say the least. But I’ve been here for over a year now and violence is rare. We’ve had family who have had their cars stolen and broken into and things like that, but violent crimes aren’t common.
My friend is a photography buff and has started posting a picture a day of her family — every day from her last birthday to the next one over 365 days. She calls it #bdaytobday365. There are a lot of things to love about this country and I thought I’d be inspired by my friend and try something similar to her birthday challenge but focus on life in this beautiful country and why I am glad I currently call it home.
So today is day 1 — a fun shot taken at the top of the Sky Tower, standing on a glass floor high above my new home.
